When the written word was invented 5,000 years ago triggering the beginning of history, Egypt’s first Pharaoh Narmer was already smothering himself in gold amulets and precious stones.  Such is the power of jewellery. 

 Egypt finally fell to the Romans but mighty jewellery nations emerged in China, India and France – each with their own distinct style.  Melanie will look at three modern day master jewellers, at the height of their powers who now represent these three nations.

Melanie was Jewellery Editor and is currently Luxury Editor on 1843 Magazine, the lifestyle sister publication to the Economist.  She has worked there for 10 years and has worked in the media for over 20 years as a stylist, photo editor and writer on publications such as The Times, The Guardian and The Independent.  She ran her own creative agency for 8 years and collects vintage jewellery.
