Contrary to popular belief, not all 1960’s American art was Pop. Minimalist artists revolutionised sculpture and painting by changing the audience’s relationship to it – and by doing so laid the groundwork for so much contemporary art. Minimalist theory values reduced geometry, industrial materials, repeated forms and a direct relationship between the viewer and the object. Its beauty is unexpected and its ideas transformative.
