Esa-Pekka Salonen - SFS MUSIC DIRECTOR DESIGNATE AND CONDUCTOR
In honor of Sakurako & William Fisher
Few composers have truly altered the course of classical music forever. The first, and arguably still the most important, was J.S. Bach. Opening the inaugural season of Esa-Pekka Salonen’s tenure as Music Director of the San Francisco Symphony is a festival celebrating the composer’s earth-shattering music—in Salonen’s words, “the foundation of everything.” Salonen, the Orchestra, and our eight Collaborative Partners use the German composer’s works as a lens into the infinite possibilities of classical music—visually, artistically, philosophically, even physically. Bach becomes a model, his music the material, his genius the inspiration. Experience this new take on the symphony orchestra, on music and its boundless direction, on a no-holds-barred gala celebration. It’s all part of a new era for the SF Symphony based on collaboration, experimentation, and that which began it all: artistry of the highest caliber.
Opening Night Gala concert ticket purchasers enjoy a pre-concert sparkling wine promenade and access to the after-party. For an elevated experience, upgrade to one of four unique, VIP dinner packages. Call the Volunteer Council for more information at 415-503-5500.
Proceeds from the Opening Night Gala benefit the Symphony’s myriad artistic, education, and community programs, which serve over 75,000 Bay Area elementary, middle and high school students each year.
