Join us for an inspirational, fun and educational evening! ALIX is delighted to  welcome members and their guests to a special evening with Carmen Mensink a renowned painter and teacher of Tibetan Art.  Carmen is based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and gives workshops and private lessons internationally

During our 3 hour evening workshop, at Crush Curatorial’s gallery space, you will learn how to draw and color (with colored pencils) one of two important symbols in Tibetan Buddhism the lotus flower and the famous Kalachakra according to the Buddhist tradition.

The word Kala-chakra means ‘Wheel of Time’ and refers to the unique representation of the cycles of time contained within the Kalachakra Tantra, widely known through the famous Kalachakra Initiation, it is the largest of the Buddhist rituals and is conferred regularly by the Dalai Lama.  The ritual represents a very special form of blessing designed to promote the development of an ethic of peace and harmony in oneself and among mankind as a whole. It is also a blessing on the actual location where the event is taking place. The interlocking body of this mystical monogram is composed of seven syllables that together form the Kalachakra mantra which you will also learn this evening.

Carmen’s workshop offers a good introduction into Tibetan thangka painting and contains a short meditation, a slideshow and talk on the meaning of the symbols, explanation of the tradition and a lot of individual guidance

The course is suitable for everyone, including beginners with no drawing experience whatsoever. The workshop attendance will be limited.
