Somerset House is an exquisite neoclassical complex of buildings surrounding an open-air courtyard that serves as a cultural hub for the city. During the summer months, fountains and outdoor events inspire visitors, while winter transforms the courtyard into London's favorite ice rink. It is home to the Courtauld Institute of Art, famous for its Impressionist collection and exhibitions exploring contemporary themes. A restored 19th century drawing room inside Somerset House is the exquisite setting for Spring, the first solo restaurant of Michelin-star chef and former Vogue food editor, Skye Gyngell. The space is very stylish, and like the name implies, fresh and airy, with high ceilings and pastel colored walls punctuated with art. Gyngell’s expertise lies in her ability to understand how different flavors, textures and palettes go together, much like the building, which blends history with a commitment to current artistic trends. We think the perfect evening would include a visit to the Courtauld, followed by a wonderful meal of seasonal ingredients at Spring.
