Art and Paris are certainly synonymous! The city has spawned creativity for centuries. This October, ALIX curated a visit to Paris and the surrounding areas to enjoy the many dimensions of art in this magical part of the world!
TOUR HIGHLIGHTS
FONDATION LOUIS VUITTON & MUSEE D'ORSAY
We will have an early morning guided tour of the Mark Rothko as well as a leisurely lunch at Le Frank. The museum designed by Frank Gehry is a feat of engineering with vast open spaces that are a fitting background to historical and contemporary art. The Rothko show will be breathtaking in the space!!
At the Musee D’Orsay, we will have a guided tour of the highlights of the permanent collection as well as the special exhibition. Scheduled for October is Van Gogh in Auvers-sur-Oise The Final Months. This is where Van Gogh died and it will include the famous painting from that period of his life.
CONTEMPORARY ART EXPERIENCES AND SPACES
PARIS PLUS ART BASEL This will be a tour highlight. If you have never been to a contemporary art fair, the Art Basel brand features modern and contemporary art from over 100 art galleries from France and beyond displaying work of exceptional quality, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, photography, video, and digital art.
LA BOURSE DE COMMERCE - Pinault Collection Visits will also include other alternative spaces such as Lafayette Anticipations, Fondation Cartier. The historical structure was transformed by architect Tadao Ando and present artists in the collection of Francois Pinault. It is always exciting to experience centuries coming together and to see artist of contemporary note!
PALAIS DE TOKYO - An Alternative Art Space. This space was created as an alternative museum to present exhibitions of large immersive installations by contemporary artists. We will have a guided tour of the exhibitions on view, followed dining at one of the adjacent restaurants like Forest
A DAY OUTSIDE OF PARIS
We will spend the day outside of Paris with a day trip to the Loire Valley to Domaine Chaumont-sur-Loire, home to Catherine de Medici, for a guided tour of art installations throughout the chateau and the magnificent artists-designed gardens. We will travel by private coach for a trip that will take around 2 hours.
ART GALLERIES AND ARTIST STUDIO VISITS As this is aweek of full-blown art, there is usually a night when all galleries are open late in the evening. Iso love this evening - the streets are full as everyone is strolling from place before a late dinner with lots of ofwine. Here are some examples of places to visit:
