Warmth overcomes you as you enter the tiny storefront of this cozy neighborhood spot. Wallflower is the definition of a New York secret hideout. Under a pressed-tin ceiling painted gold and surrounded by orange upholstery, the space contains a small room with an intimate marble-topped bar and a view into the restaurant’s small kitchen, where you will see chefs hard at work. At Wallflower, the drinks and food are accorded equal importance, with a cocktail menu as ingenious as its food. Xavier Herit, co-owner and head bartender, comes from Daniel, one of New York’s finest restaurants. He and his small team are gracious and will welcome a chat! For dining, request one of the three small tables along the dining room windowsill. The food is predominantly focused on small plates that allow you to savor lighter twists of older traditions, such as tuna tartare and roasted pig belly with figs. A prix-fixe menu is available if you are in the mood for a more substantial meal.
