THE ALIX EXPERIENCE + GEORGE SMART, US MODERNIST

TWA TERMINAL: A NIGHT OF ARCHITECTURE AND COCKTAILS

WEDNESDAY, JULY 14 TH 2021

Join Suzanne Randolph of The ALIX Experience, and George Smart, US Modernist, for a delightful evening of architecture and drinks at the iconic TWA Flight Center at JFK. The evening will begin with a tour of the iconic mid-century modernist building, led by Heather Dela Cruz of Lubrano Ciavarra Architects, the firm that designed the new hotel wings. As the architects describe it: “From the moment guests and visitors arrive at the 392,000 square foot TWA Hotel, they find themselves immersed in the ethos of 1962’s rich culture, architecture, sights, sounds and ambiance. Attention to the smallest of details permeates the entire guest experience, paying homage to the newly restored Flight Center and a special time in American history.”

Following our tour, we will continue with cocktails in the Sunken Lounge, during which George Smart will talk about modernist architecture and the context of the Saarinen landmark. Round out this magical evening with an optional stay in one of the hotel’s elegant rooms, completing your experience in style! George Smart will be staying over too and will be happy to continue a conversation about his passion for modernist architecture Register now to take part in a memorable evening of architecture, design, cuisine, and luxury!

About TWA Hotel: TWA Hotel opened on May 15, 2019. It utilizes the head house of the TWA Flight Center, designed in 1962 by the architect Eero Saarinen. The TWA Hotel project added two buildings on either side of the existing head house. It contains a total of 512 rooms, as well as conference space, several restaurants, and an aviation history museum.

About George Smart, Accidental Archivist: George Smart’s life changed dramatically after he visited Fallingwater in 2007. That led him to a late night Google search, which became a website, which became a community. Now his small but intrepid nonprofit staff and volunteers have built the largest open digital archives - free and searchable - of residential mid-century Modernist design in the world. George is founder and Executive Director of USModernist and NCModernist, nonprofit organizations dedicated to the documentation, preservation, and promotion of Modernist design.
