The Leopard is built upon the spirit of one of New York’s most famous restaurants, Cafe des Artistes, and is housed in the historic Hotel des Artistes, built in 1917. The restaurant, which was originally the hotel’s dining room, served residents, which included Isadora Duncan, Noel Coward, Norman Rockwell, and one night a sighting of Mr. Spock! Throughout the years, the restaurant, with its exquisite murals by Howard Chandler Christy, has become a New York City fixture. With a recent reconfiguration, the space offers some lovely spots for solo diners to be discretely pampered opposite the bar at the rear of the restaurant. The food is classic Italian and expertly prepared. This year's summer menu includes an inventive and delicious new highlight: Pan-seared Duck Breast Porchetta with wild fennel pollen, cipollini with aged balsamic vinegar, and pickled raisins. We also love the grilled octopus and risotto any time of year.
