One of the oldest institutions in London, the Royal Exchange has been the center of commerce for the City of London since the sixteenth century. Its unique trapezoidal shape and columned entrance was originally designed for London’s first financial trading floor as well as retail spaces for local shopkeepers, an innovative mixed-use concept for its time. Today, the now defunct trading floor is a place for casual dining surrounded by luxury shops such as Tiffany and Gucci. For a more upscale dining experience, visit Sauterelle, located on the balcony level. The menu selections are broad and the chef utilizes sustainable produce from Italy and Britain. The restaurant is set above the bustling shopping level, making it a calm place to relax on your own after a day of meetings in the area, while enjoying a highly refined meal inspired by the foods of Liguria or one that is comprised of more traditional British favorites.
