Share the natural beauty and sites that fueled the creativity of Cézanne, Renoir, and Van Gogh and many more! After we traveled further north to follow the light-filled path of the Impressionists earlier in May, ALIX will delve into the more representative expressions of the Post-Impressionists as we turn south to Provence. There we will enjoy the warmth of the region with visits to the iconic towns of Arles, Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, St. Rémy and other surrounding villages.

We love this part of France! As it is closer to the Mediterranean and Spain, there is a different energy and blending of cultures and traditions adding a vibrancy that makes it feel more relaxed and less formal. It is also a region filled with the legacy of the Romans who built great works of architecture and examples of engineering ingenuity! And yes it is true… There really are open flowering fields that fascinated Renoir and cypress tree-lined roads with vistas of Cézanne’s Mont Sainte Victoire!

Our trip will begin and end in Paris where we will be able to see great works at museums and speak with specialists before heading south to be wrapped in the region’s history juxtaposed with the exciting pulse of contemporary art that is filling the area!

Arles will be our home base in Provence. A UNESCO Heritage site, its cultural legacy spans over 2000 years. It was transformed into a city by the Romans, inhabited by Van Gogh from 1888-1889, and today energized by the establishment of LUMA, an interdisciplinary creative campus which presents exhibitions, live performances, and iconic architecture. 

It will be a wonderfully immersive visit as we soak in the art, landscape, sun and regional cuisine.
