The Impressionist movement was launched in the early 1870s, with Claude Monet as one of its leading artists. The name of the group was inspired by his 1872 painting “Impression, Sunrise,” which captured the sun rising over the harbor of Le Havre. The region became a magnet for fellow artists that included Boudin, Manet, and Renoir, prompting them to turn away from academic studio traditions to capture instantaneous “impressions” of the fleeting moments in which light touches nature’s beauty and softens the solidity of the region’s natural and architectural wonders.

Our tour will begin and end in Paris as we engage with signature works by the Impressionists in the city’s major art collections and venture on to Normandy to be immersed in the locales that captured their imagination. Throughout the tour, we will learn about their times and their oeuvre with our specialist guides. If you are so inclined, feel free to bring any art materials so that you too can capture a fleeting moment of light, as there will be time set aside for creativity!
