A NoHo favorite since its opening five years ago, Il Buco Alimentari is a warm and welcoming place to enjoy a meal any time of day. The space maintains its identity as a former lumberyard with its use of roughhewn woods and incorporation of the original joists as part of the design. At dinner, greeters will sweep you away and give you a seat at the bar or the chef’s table in the rear. The servers are knowledgeable and friendly. We especially recommend Il Buco Alimentari for a beyond-satisfying meal before a play at the nearby New York Theatre Workshop. Come hungry, because you will be served large portions of simply prepared food rich with flavor. You could easily be satisfied with a few appetizers like crispy artichokes or miso hamachi. The pasta dishes are not to be missed and the salt-baked branzino is out of this world. The owner, Donna Lennard, makes a point of celebrating local food purveyors. From curing their own salumi in house to sourcing the best quality ingredients, the experience is reminiscent of the classic markets in Italy. Care comes through on all levels of your experience, and everything about Il Buco Alimentari is generous. Il Buco Alimentari’s older sister restaurant, Il Buco, is filled with antiques from a former tenant and located just one block away. Grab a seat at the bar or the communal table and enjoy the warm aromas swirling around you.
