Hudson Valley Art Trip

Art Omi, The Campus Upstate, and The School in Kinderhook

September 18–20, 2026

A view of Hudson, NY.

In recent years the Hudson Valley has become a major arts destination with permanent and seasonal cultural resources. We will be based in the wonderful town of Hudson which like many river towns over the last few decades, Hudson has become gentrified and filled with great art galleries, antique shops and restaurants.  It’s drenched in a wonderful history which will encourage you to wander.

Only a few hours north of New York, ALIX is planning a Fall weekend to take in the rich colors of the season and connect with powerful expressions of important contemporary artists.  We will visit several cultural hotspots over the course of 2 days and will see works nestled in the landscape and works set within the
backdrop of the region's rich history.

Art Omi

Art Omi is an outdoor sculpture park set over 120 acres presenting more than 60 works on view in the landscape.. Art Omi presents the work of contemporary artists and architects, featuring a range of large-scale installations in nature and rotating exhibitions in an indoor gallery . There is also a very active artist- in-residence program that often schedules  opportunities for studio visits.

The School in Kinderhook

The School is a 30,000-square-foot former high school in Kinderhook, NY. Is the vision of New York-based gallerist Jack Shainman, founded in 2013 with the mission of presenting ambitious, large-scale exhibitions that shed new light on artists' work. Its curatorial vision is guided by a desire for creative exploration and cultural exchange, offering a unique platform to examine everything from the entire breadth of a single artist’s career to the oftentimes unexpected cross-pollination that exists between artists working across media, disciplines, regions and centuries.

Campus Upstate

The Campus is owned and operated by a consortium of six New York City-based  galleries: Bortolami, James Cohan, kaufmann repetto, Anton Kern, Andrew Kreps, and Kurimanzutto.  Embracing a collaborative model, the galleries have turned an abandoned former Ockawamick School in Claverack, NY, into a newly revived as a dynamic venue for contemporary and a platform for cultural exchange.  The exhibition stretched over thirty solo and duo full-room  installations anchor the show alongside focused group presentations of painting, photography and ceramics.

Our Base - Hudson, New York.

Hudson, NY is a city whose rich and diverse history informs our ethos. Once Mohican land, later shaped by an industrial boom and Gilded Age proprietors, Hudson is the first incorporated city in the United States. It has long been a beacon of industrial change, reflecting the many histories of our time.

Our Hotel

We will spend two nights at the recently opened Pocketbook Hotel  housed in a historic textile factory built in 1885, which is the source of our namesake, it’s a place led by curiosity and shaped for care.

Getting There

Hudson can easily be reached by car or by Amtrak from Grand Central Station. Once there, ALIX will provide local transportation each day to our art destinations
