Gabriel Kreuther left The Modern in 2014 and opened this eponymous restaurant, bringing along The Modern’s pastry Chef, Marc Aumont. Raised in Alsace, Gabriel’s upbringing shows up in subtle ways throughout the interior and menu. The sophisticated restaurant overlooks Bryant Park and captures New York indulgence by maintaining the highest standards of fine dining, with its elegant interior, top-tier service and precise attention to detail found down to the elegant silverware designed by Vera Purtsche. Instead of minimalist gallery-like interiors that many new restaurants opt for, Gabriel Kreuther is extravagant. Glen Coben thoughtfully designed two distinct environments: The first is the intimate bar area characterized by smaller tables, a copper-paneled bar and street lamps, which make you feel outdoors as you snack on smaller plates. Dine here for a less expensive and more casual dining option. Sam, the incredibly welcoming sommelier, can help you choose a glass of wine to suit your preferences. The chic main dining room, on the other hand, is marked by plush cream banquettes, hand-painted floral walls and reclaimed wood beams, making you feel as if you were inside a home. Crystal storks hang from the curved platinum ceiling as you delight in the tasting menu delivered by the restaurant’s extremely well-trained staff, with amuses-bouches in between each course.
