CHELSEA
Story of the Neighborhood . . .
Directly north of Greenwich Village and the Meatpacking District is Chelsea, the current epicenter for New York’s elite, “blue chip” contemporary art galleries. Major gallery spaces run by Larry Gagosian, David Zwirner, and Hauser & Wirth inhabit the real estate between West 14th and 24th streets. Thursday evenings at 6pm, the galleries remain open as the streets fill with art aficionados making their way from one gallery opening reception to another—a major draw during the fall and winter seasons, where the new art is good and the mingling with art aficionados over beer is even better.
