PARIS : RACHEL ROSE AT LAFAYETTE ANTICIPATIONS

  • Lafayette Anticipations 9 Rue du Plâtre Paris, IDF, 75004 France (map)

March 13 - September 13

Rachel Rose at Lafayette Anticipations

What makes us human and how do we rethink our condition? Through five video installations and a set of sculptures, Rachel Rose , for her first major exhibition in Paris, explores our relationships with landscape, fiction, childhood, spirituality and sees in each of these subjects the opportunity to investigate our ways of being in the world.

For her videos, Rachel Rose experiments with a wide range of film techniques, from collage of images to, more recently, the making of narrative films. Independently of these different approaches, the artist has developed a coherent method of projection and installation.
At Lafayette Anticipations, all of the spaces will be transformed in order to fully immerse the viewer and influence their physical and psychological experience.

From the folklore of 17th century agricultural England in " Wil-o-Wisp " (2018) to the possible futures glimpsed by contemporary science in "Sitting Feeding Sleeping" (2013), the artist is interested in our perspectives on 'impermanence. Works like " Lake Valley"(2016) and" Everything and More "(2015) represent singular sensory experiences - from abandonment in children's literature to weightlessness - that contribute to our understanding of the human condition.

Along with the videos, a new series of sculptures, made from glass and minerals, pursue the artist's concerns about the relationships between the animated / inanimate, human / post-human worlds in a time of radical environmental and spiritual upheavals.

This exhibition is an adaptation of a project by Rachel Rose presented at Fridericianum in Cassel (October 25, 2019 - January 12, 2020).
