Walking through the doors of 15 East is like stepping into a work of art—its tranquility is exactly what you need at the end of a long day and its modest size and simple decor are rare in a city where “over-the-top” is as common as the yellow cab. Chef Masato Shimizu is a purist. House-cured gari (ginger) is paired with high-class, no-frills sushi—classically served and with an impressive selection of fresh fish in the highest quality of cuts and grades. Many of the other ingredients are sourced from the nearby Union Square Greenmarket, nicely complementing the seafood and providing inspiration for each day’s culinary creations.
